You know you want to go to the location(s) in one (or several) of Harrison's movies. You pick your movie(s) and favorite scenes. Then you'll probably be asking yourself: Exactly where did they shoot that scene and how do I find out???
We have located a relevant search tool for you so there's a fair chance you may find out. The tool is found at the link below:
|
famouslocations.com |
 |
| Go to the Search Panel (top left of the famouslocations web page) and type Harrison Ford
in the search field. Hit the "Go" button. |
| Scroll down a bit until you find this section in and hit the link under Results for: Actors |
| |
 |
| Hit the link for your favorite Harrison. Note: both links are very useful!!! Both links will present lists of movies
by "our" Harrison as well as works by the silent movie star of the same name. The link with the trailing (2) lists movies
NOT included in first list. |
| |
 |
| Let's say you loved Working Girl and would like to have a tequila at the bar where Tess McGill and Jack Trainer first met. |
| We found Working Girl in the list presented when hitting link #1 (scroll page!) Click on the movie title. |
| Great!! We get a page with a lots of references!! |
 |
Scroll the page. Aha! |
Hitting the links for "Working Girl Club" and "Midday Club" won't produce anything, i.e in the
form of maps etc. In other words: we need to look up other sources. |
| The famouslocations site may not be 100% up-to-date on e.g street addys or the availability of typically
temporary establishments like in-crowd restaurants; we all know they come and go or change owners and names as often most of us change socks.
Let's double check on that suspicion. A fair assumption would be that the Tess/Jack bar is the item listed as the Midday Club.
Let's check up on that in an online US phone directory, e.g this one
at anywho.com: |
| |
 |
| We know the Midday Club is a business (check relevant radio button). Then
we fill in name, city and choose state (NY) in the dropdown menu. Finally we hit Search. |
| This is what we get: |
 |
| A bit confusing... No exact match but a lot of possible candidates in
the "club" category. We decide that "Clubs" and "Night Clubs" are more likely candidates than e.g "Basketball Clubs", tick off in the relevant
check boxes and hit "Go" |
| The result: |
 |
| |
| Well, this at least tells us who pays for featured ads...Seven more screens of "All Listings" fail to make us go Eureka! |
| Conclusion: |
| a) we coldn't nail it down properly b) instead of looking for a needle in the haystack we'd better have that tequila somewhere else
c) clicking on the panels in the famousplaces search provides us with the precise locations (in the form of street
adresses) of several sites of Working Girl relevance in New York City. (Why not go back and check them out??) |
| We decide to find the place where they shot the dam sequence in The Fugitive instead.
A famouslocations search soon brings up the following panels: |
| |
 |
 |
Our target may be The Fontana Dam in North Carolina
|
| Clicking the Fontana Dam link give us no more information, so we quit famouslocations and go to a general internet search
tool like Google to find out more: |
| |
 |
Entering the search string fontana dam and north carolina brings out a fair number of hits. |
| Clicking on the various links will give us a lots of useful info on the Fontana Dam: history, how to get there
(maps & driving directions), the fact that there are guided tours on the lot, tourist offices & accomodation in the
area etc. In other words: just what we need for our planning purposes. |
 |
A look at some of the pics offered on the linked sites leave us with little doubt that
this is the place where Richard Kimble took a dive |
You've got a pretty good idea about how this works by now so why not go for a search for your own personal favorites?
A little warning: the list of attractions per movie is far from complete and don't expect to find all Harrison's movies in the
famouslocations database. And: never forget to cross check the validity of the information you dig up!
We still have a feeling you'll come across enough of interest to have a pretty full vacation schedule for the next couple of
years |
| Happy travelling and don't forget to your report!! |
