Tidbits
  • The original title for the film was The Temple of Death
  • Willie Scott was named after Steven Spielberg's dog
  • Sharon Stone was one of the top choices for the role of Willie Scott before Kate Capshaw auditioned
  • Spielberg is generally credited with the PG-13 rating in place today. He suggested to Jack Valenti that there should be something between PG and R and the Motion Picture Association agreed. If it were not for the new rating, Temple of Doom would have received an R rating
  • Cameo: [George Lucas] a missionary in the background in the airport scene at the beginning
  • Director Cameo: [Steven Spielberg] a missionary in the background in the airport scene at the beginning
  • The "chilled monkey-brains" were made from custard and raspberry sauce
  • The sound effect we hear in the opening sequence on the plane is the same failing-engine sound effect used when Han Solo's Millennium Falcon fails to crank up in The Empire Strikes Back
  • Temple of Doom is Spielberg's first sequel
