| Summary |
On the maiden voyage of the (then) Soviet Union's first nuclear submarine (1961), loaded with ICBMs InterContinental Ballistic Missiles) it had a malfunction in its reactor at the bottom of the Barents Sea and began to melt down. Over the next few days, with no way of communicating with other Red Fleet ships, Capt. Alexei Vostrikov (Harrison Ford) and his second in command Capt. Mikhail Polenin (Liam Neeson) must put aside personal differences to handle the crisis.
The movie is a homage to one of the bravest crews on any ship ever, a crew that in effect stopped the outbreak of a potential World War III through their courage and sacrifice.
