Summary
Veteran detective Joe Gavilan (Harrison Ford) is on the biggest case of his career: a shootdown at a local hip hop club. However, time is hard to find: he needs to pay alimony to three ex-wives and colleges fees, he consequently moonlights as a real estate broker during the free hours he doesn't have. On top of everything he's saddled with a new partner, K.C. Calden (Josh Hartnett), who can't quite decide between being a cop, an aspiring actor - or an unusually popular yoga instructor (with predominantly beautiful female students -). Unsurprisingly, Gavilan's girlfriend friend Ruby (Lena Olin), who works as a successful psychic with her own radio show, soon has valuable insights into the case.

Tidbits
  • Joe Gavilan's frequently heard cell phone ring is the opening riff of My Girl, while K.C. Calden's phone plays Funkytown
  • The hip hop club where the murders occur also served as the nightclub in Boogie Nights
  • The hip hop club was also used as the base of operations in Ocean's Eleven according to Ron Shelton
  • Hollywood Homicide features several music professionals in bigger roles. Among them: K-Ro (as Kurupt), Master P (as Julius Armas) and Dwight Yoakam (as Leroy Wasley)
  • Hollywood Homicide is sprinkled with cameos from a number of music bigtimers and other celebrities. Among them: Smokey Robinson (as taxi driver), Gladys Knight (as Kurupt's mother), Dr. Dre (as studio guru), Martin Landau (as faded movie producer), Lou Diamond Phillips (as undercover cop in drag), Lolita Davidovich (as professional escort madam), Eric Idle (as a thinly veiled Hugh Grant-ish celebrity) and Johnny Grant & Robert Wagner (as themselves)
  • Hollywood Homicide contains a great, alas unreleased, soundtrack; see listing below
