Thanks for posting this video clip Max; in all honesty, i am not entirely sure, i shall need to watch the film itself in order to get an overview. Harrison sounds grumpy again, at least in these clips, but having said that, i hope the critics are good to him and the film is a box office success. Good luck! Jane

I disagree. I think he looks refreshed but his voice in the last few years as become very gruff. And maybe that is perceived as grumpy, I just think that is his voice.

I can't wait for this.

He looks great. And I like E.T.'s Mother in this scene... :-)

You're quite correct Jim, the deepening of the voice can make it sound gruff or grumpy, and I apologize for my preconceived ideas of his personality in the film. I am glad also to hear that Harrison is looking good and as you say Jim, refreshed. As you may know I am blind, and it has been a long time since I saw Harrison in actuality, so rely on you guys for an unbiased description of how he is currently looking! Jane.

No apology necessary. I had noticed this change in his voice a couple of years ago, very similar to the change that Clint Eastwood's voice went through. I did not know you were blind and if you go by voice alone, then I think he may come across as grumpy.

Still not sure about the movie but I have to agree that he looks very good.

hmm...not crazy about the acting in that scene, and yeah, his voice does sound gruff (almost like he needs to clear his throat).

I'm curious, can anyone pinpoint about when his voice changed. My guess would be about 2000. I don't recall his voice sounding that way in "What Lies Beneath."

One serious question regarding the fandango scene: Are they supposed to be slightly drunk/buzzed? (Maybe it's the context of the scene but is it just me or do they seem to talk a little bit weird.)

And another question regarding every frame we've seen from this film so far: What about that weird and cheap looking soft glow? ( I mean the light effect Stephen Colbert makes fun of in this video at 2:06)

As far as Harrison's voice is concerned: It doesn't bother me as much in this clip as it does in the other one that was posted on the usa today-site. There was some serious gruff voice in there, to the degree that I decided I needed subtitles if I'd ever go see the film. What annoys me about his voice (in that clip) is that it seems to be intentionally gruff, low and incomprehensible. As if to say "look, I'm this lonely, grumpy scientist and I talk all weird and stuff". I just can't help, though, and think of it as a rather boring performance. Sorry. I am saying this with all the love in the world, though, I promise. Maybe the thing is that everyone's talking about how different this role can be for him and I'm frankly not seeing that in those clips.

Sorry for these rambling and all whiny sentences. It's just my humble opinion. Don't make more of it.

Totally agree Mrsskywalker. What's with Harrison's pause at around 45 seconds: "I have never heard (pause) of you guys." ??? It just doesn't sound natural.

What is all this nitpicking about?
Do normal people not pause while they are thinking or while they are talking, especially when they are trying not to offend someone by saying something wrong?
It is obvious that Fraser's character just made up this foundation name and rather than trying to repeat the name, Ford's character pauses and says "you guys."

Are you guys looking for reasons to dislike this movie even before it is released?

I don't think that anybody here is looking for reasons to dislike the movie. But i also think that you don't have to praise everything if you don't want to.

Some questions have been asked and some things have been criticized. That's it. Nobody bashed the movie or offended anyone. It's just a discussion and that's what a discussion forum is all about, isn't it?

okay then. If you guys and gals would like to critique each second of the film before it is released that is fine, considering we have seen only about 2 minutes, but I no longer will be a part of the discussion. I would much rather watch the film as a whole and then discuss it.

I agree with what you're saying, but still think the pause should have been made after the "of." It sounds off-key to me.

I also didn't mean to offend you by being nitpicky, but I think the thread would be awful boring if we didn't engage in an honest discussion about all aspects of his performance--the pros and the cons.

Good clip/bad clip, whatever. I find that clips often don't acurately reflect a film's content. I've seen some wonderful clips for terrible films and vice versa. I wonder who decides what's shown in a clip - Advertising agents or directors/producers?

Historybuff, you asked the question about when Harrison's voice began to sound gruff, and I think that that it was ok in "What Lies Beneath". If you listen, then there are parts when he is beginning to sound a touch gruff, but I agree that around the year 2000 his voice is getting decidedly lower; "K19 The Widowmaker" being a prime example. Whilst I'm at it, I really didn't mean to start up an argument between members, please play nicely guys and gals, our binding love is Harrison! Jane.

AS Too when his voice started to change I think it was about the time last crusade was filmed. What I do feel about Extraordinary Measures is that it is a kinda by the numbers kinda type of film
