March 2nd Box-Office analysis While only opening in 9 theaters Crossing Over did fantastic box office per screen. Averaging $8,400 per screen Crossing Over actually did better per screen than Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail which averaged $8,041 per screen and was the #1 movie over the past weekend. Heading to more theaters? I've been hearing different reports on the future of Crossing Over. One is the Weinstein Company is going to just throw this movie on DVD while an email report tells me they plan on expanding the film around March 13th. I just wish the Weinsteins had more faith in this movie and the per screen average encourages them to give this film a wider release. Promotion of movie I reported earlier that Harrison was not doing any promotion for this film and sure enough I was proven wrong. There is a video interview with him at Entertainment Hotline and one with his co-star Justin Choncourtesy of AOL. More reviews Extremely detailed and worth the read - Zoom-in.com Very positive reviews - KitKat's fascination with Film, Helium.com The movie gets a negative review but Harrison's performance is praised over at Cinematical. Special thanks to forum member And74. February 20th Several reviews are now online. At the most they are mixed and Harrison is getting praise for his work. Hollywood-Elsewhere Jeffery Wells gives a mixed review. Variety "some welcome fresh angles" Hollywood Reporter: Harrison gets praise, the movie not so much. Newsblaze "touches on the tragic predicaments of immigrants...without dramatic manipulation or preachiness" August 2008
The brainchild of writer-director Wayne Kramer (Running Scared, The Cooler), himself a transplanted South African, Crossing Over explores how a variety of migrants in Los Angeles, some there legally and some not, come to terms with the dream-challenging realities of the City of Angels. The film also shows how those charged with enforcing the US entry and work laws cope with often trying situations, which is where Harrison's character, Max Brogan, comes in. "He's an Immigration and Customs agent," the actor explains. "It's about an issue that affects us all, so I'm interested as a citizen. I'm also interested in the economic impact and the emotional aspects of immigration reform. So I'm happy to see the subject getting attention." Cineplex asks a timely question: is the audience ready for yet another Ford movie so soon? At that one deviating quite a bit from his highly bountiful signature jonesing around earlier this spring and summer?Parts of the answer seems to be the thespian itch and Harrison's love for his chosen profession: "There's no difference in the creative process, whether you're doing a film that's an entertainment or you're doing a film that's serious in intent, and ambitious. The job on the set is exactly the same: give the best possible expression to the ideas contained in the scene, make it interesting, make it work. It's the same job and it's a job I love." An excerpt of his opinion: See 'Crossing Over' ASAP. This film will grab you and shake you. This is a horror movie. You don't need an axe-wielding maniac to scare you. Real life events ripped from the headlines will do just that and even better. How to best describe this movie? You know that movie Crash? Of course you do. Now think about that movie and imagine it as ... good. No gimmicks, no cliches. Just very real human drama about the horrors of the immigration. April 2007 Crossing Over begins filming April 11th - The Crossing Over project was also featured by Variety today. Sean Penn will do a cameo as a border patrol agent and Ray Liotta will play a USCIS district adjudicator (bureaucrat). More cast will be added and will be shuttled in and out. It seems Harrison will play Max Brogan, a seasoned Immigration Customs Enforcement agent who works out of the Los Angeles Immigration Work-Site Enforcement Unit, conducting surveillance and raids. To flesh out the plot subthemes cited in our news item earlier today (see below): The green card theme appears to involve a young Australian actress who will do whatever it takes to obtain the card - even if it means enduring sexual exploitation by an immigration official. Another subtheme seems to involve the arrest of an illegal Mexican immigrant and her 4 year old son, a third the case of a 15 year old Muslim girl facing the prospect of extradiction whereas her younger U.S born siblings are legally entitled to stay. - Harrison filming another movie before Indiana 4? - According to the LA Times Harrison is involved in Crossing Over which, according to IMDb, is "a multi-character canvas about immigrants of different nationalities struggling to achieve legal status in Los Angeles. The film deals with the border, document fraud, the asylum and green card process, work-site enforcement, naturalization, the office of counter terrorism and the clash of cultures." The same article says that the movie will also star Sean Penn and Ray Liotta and according to the LA Times "the Weinstein Co. project is nearly devoid of politics and doesn't only look at the hot-button border crossing issues. Instead, it weaves intersecting story lines, from immigrants gaming the system to obtain their green cards to immigration agents just trying to do their jobs while maintaining their humanity." The film is to start filming next week and will have a 50 day shoot (don't fret Indy fans, that is plenty of time for him to do this film and still be available for Indiana 4). Wayne Kramer (The Cooler, Running Scared) wrote the script and will also direct. No official word from Harrison's camp on this project but if he is indeed involved count me in as one who can't wait to see this movie.
