JOHN WILLIAMS STARTS WORK ON INDY 4 ON OCT 1ST
Master composer John Williams conducted the Columbus Symphony in concert in Columbus, Ohio yesterday night, and he was interviewed by the Columbus weekly news and entertainment paper The Other Paper re: the event. The Other Paper naturally asked Williams about his current projects:
What's the current project you're working on?
Well, I just actually put pen down on a viola concerto. And I will be doing a week for the New York Philharmonic here, and then I'll be coming out to Columbus for one day and I'll be looking forward to meeting the orchestra. I think they'll be great. And then I'll be home in California the first of October to start on the next Indiana Jones.
Are you just going to incorporate music from the earlier movies, or are you writing any new melodies?
I'll be able to tell you in about two weeks.
The article doesn't say if Williams will work closely with Steven Spielberg already from October 1st, but the news may indicate that the main body of Indy 4 shooting will be finished by then. NB!! The latter is unconfirmed and our speculation only!!
IMDb user Yorick Brown has attended a prescreening of Crossing Over and he liked what he saw - a lot. An excerpt of his opinion:
See 'Crossing Over' ASAP. This film will grab you and shake you. This is a horror movie. You don't need an axe-wielding maniac to scare you. Real life events ripped from the headlines will do just that and even better.
How to best describe this movie? You know that movie Crash? Of course you do. Now think about that movie and imagine it was......good
No gimmicks, no cliches. Just very real human drama about the horrors of the immigration.
We have still not picked up an official opening date for the movie. IMDb Pro now lists premiere date as Nov. 16, whereas the Daily Variety said that release date was in December in a recent entry (Sept. 18). A specific release date has yet not been released by production company and distributor. A look at the webpages of the Weinstein Co and a pretty through news search have left us none the wiser.
We sincerely hope an official release date, promo and a trailer will be released soon. If the general prescreen buzz is as good as Brown's opinion above it can hardly do any harm to spread the good news?
George Lucas Has Spoken in the latest issue of the TV Guide. Lucas is interviewed primarily to introduce a new documentary due for broadcasting on Sept, 24 - Fog City Mavericks - the story about famous and independent San Fransisco filmmakers - but when asked he also spilled a few beans on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. One of them is Lucas' opinion on why not having Sir Sean Connery on board turned out to be a good thing. He also takes the opportunity to shoot down one of the many widely circulated rumors re: John Hurt's character.
While we're at it: The Belfast Telegraph featured an excellent article on Cate Blanchett and her career in last Friday's issue. Read the article here. Highly recommended!!!!
Dead on the Grapevine: A m-a-j-o-r possible plot spoiler was recently released by the paper The Edmond Sun (in Oklahoma) when they interviewed dancer Tyler Nelson about his recent participation in Crystal Skull. Mr. Nelson was so happy about the attention that he seemed to forget he ever signed a non-disclosure agreement. The article (no we won't link to it) was generally accessible up to just a few hours ago. It's now protected with a logon id and a password.
Our recommendation: Don't go looking it up. True or false - spoilers of this nature only succeed in living up to the label: spoil the fun. In our opinion a good spoiler should tease, make your mind buzz, generate more questions, intricacies and mysteries. Alas this one does neither.

OFFICIAL INDY 4 TITLE
The news were broken by Shia LaBeouf at the MTV Video Music Awards tonight. see video below. We may add that the title is about as good as official since MTV and Paramount Studios are both owned by media giant Viacom.
We also consider the way the news were delivered to be a little injoke that has Lucas/Spielberg written all over it: Remember a few months back. Shia spilled the beans a bit too early re: his involvement in Indy 4. He has been so exemplary ever since that we suspect he was promptly enrolled into the Spielberg-Lucas' Special Penitary Class in The Art of Keeping Your Mouth Shut. Anyway, his masters seem very pleased with their student: They may have given Shia the task of spilling the beans both as a compliment to his efforts on the movie and everything else so far - and as a little injoke reference to his previous indiscretion.
Props for Genre (=Indiana Jones 4) at the Warner Studios Property Department Photo: HFW member thebacklot
We have another exclusive for you: HFW member thebacklot has come through with news, details and some great photos from the Indy 4 sets. Most of the pics and info are from the Universal lot: the pyramid set and Mexican Street.
The big news is that unless someone has launched a major confusion campaign, a third studio in the LA area seems to be involved as an Indy 4 production location: Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, more specifically a sound stage on their lot: Stage 16.
The prop items from the Warner Property Department definitely aren't Mesoamerican and they do indeed convey enticing Raiders vibes and echoes - For the record: yes, we do believe there are plot avenues that would allow for ancient Mesoamerican as well as Egyptian elements in Indiana Jones 4.
Read thebacklot's highly interesting report on the sets and enjoy the big size photos in the HFW forum here.
Big thanks to thebacklot for a contribution that is simply extraordinary.

EXCLUSIVE: THE INDY 4 LOS ANGELES SETS
Universal Studios; Indy 4 sets marked. Click image to see bigger version Photo: Google Earth
The following information comes from a trustworthy source, who contacted this site a few days ago:
Indiana Jones 4 is shooting on four different sets on the Universal lot. Our source has seen three of the sets: the sound stage set and two outdoor sets.
As we've all understood: security on all Indy 4 sets is tight and our source says that security as been tightened further due to an incident a short time ago (see further below). Our source says that the Universal Studios Tour and tram guides are not allowed to make any reference to the newer sets, nor are they allowed to use or refer to the associated project code name. Public access to the sets and stages is restricted and all entrants must wear a Genre badge. The studio call sheets have strictly limited circulation, they are also anonymized. A call sheet normally contains project name/code and the name of the director. The Indy 4 call sheets list no director but carry the project name Genre; ref. our report on July 7: re: the code name for Indy 4: The Unnamed Genre Project.
THE UNIVERSAL LOT SETS
The Sound Stage
One of the sets on the sound stage contains something our source describes as an awesome looking Mesoamerican burial site. Extras dressed as WWII Nazi soldiers have been observed coming out of the sound stage building and a fleet of limos were seen waiting outside the building. There's been recent hectic activity in the area and the red warning lights are on a lot of the time, something that indicates that the cameras are rolling.
The Pyramid Set
Pyramid set on July 17, 2007: under construction and in the wide open. Photo: www.westcoaster.net
Pyramid set on August 22: hidden by screening fences and greenery. Photo: The HFW Source
Our source confirms that the pyramid structure top is a set for Indiana Jones 4. The set has been developed a lot since the July 17th photograph. The structure now looks very ancient and appears as something one might expect to see in a jungle. The structure is at this time surrounded by green screening fences and trees/shrubbery to avoid prying eyes/lenses.
Mexican Street
The outdoor set named Mexican Street has been extensively redressed. The pictures in the right column below show an early stage of the set dressing done for Indy 4, Click thumbs below to see larger versions of the pictures. According to our source, shooting will start on this location in the near future.

DOWNEY STUDIOS
The Downey Studio Lot, Los Angeles. Click image to see bigger version. Photo: Google Earth
Downey Studios is a former airstrip and site of aircraft, missile weapons and spacecraft assembly and production (read about the site's interesting story here. The Apollo lunar spacecraft and all four Space Shuttles were constructed here.). The air & space activities folded in 1999 and the lot has since been converted into a movie production facility. Among the big productions lensed here are Spiderman, Austin Powers: Goldmember, and Terminator III. Sequences of Indiana Jones 4 are now shooting at this facility.
Our source reports about an incident at the Indy 4 Downey sets not long ago and the incident lead to even tighter security on all Indy 4 sets and locations: Someone managed to get onto one of the sets and cut a cable.
The incident didn't stop production but put the producers even more on the alert than they already were.
In addition to the info provided by our source, we have found the following fresh observation from Downey:
Recent activity at Downey: picture dd. Aug. 19, 2007 Photo: Michael Poulin
Michael Poulin - the photographer of the picture above right - says in his Flickr entry of August 19 that the ship (?) set / rig in the picture carried two yellow signs: one reading re-animated, the other Genre. About a month ago, he observed that about a quarter of the moon painted wall was covered with lights. He also saw tanks and helicopters in the studio parking lot.

NEW DISAPPOINTING VIDEO ON OFFICIAL SITE
IndianaJones.com published a new video today and we're honestly a bit disappointed. The editing of the clips from the previous Indy movies is great, but please, we'd appreciate somewhat fresher "news" than hiiterto unused snippets of interviews originally produced for the Indiana Jones and Star Wars DVD box sets - As HFW member mrsskywalker put it:
"It really made me laugh. I guess they even just talk about Indy IV as a speculation there. The other possibility (which is even funnier) is that they did record some comments on Indy IV pretending it would actually happen. When was the Box Set released again? In 2003? At that time we were all pretty confident that the Darabont draft would actually make it. So, maybe they planned a tiny little Indy IV featurette for the DVD...
Who knows. But the talking heads are definitely from that time."
The tiny little new scaps of info are indicated in the illustration top. You can see the screencaps bigger size in the HFW Forum here.

VIDEO NARRATED BY HARRISON FINALIST AT THE 2007 JACKSON HOLE WILDLIFE FILM FESTIVAL
Harrison narrated the 26 minute video (also available on DVD): Discover the Hetch Hetchy for the NYC based environmental group Environmental Defense last year. The video is now finalist in two categories at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival in October. ("Best Non-Broadcast Program" and "Best Interactive Presentation".) Gala and Awards Night is on Thursday October 4. The Festival takes place from October 1 - 6.
The movie advocates the idea of restoring the Hetch Hetchy Valley to former glory after it was flooded in 1923 to be used as a water reservoir for the City of San Fransisco. The idea was proposed by former Interior Secretary Don Hodel and a report estimates the cost to somewhere between $3 and $10 billion. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's administration says that restoration is "feasible" (see news release here.) Nevertheless the idea remains controversial.
Here's the PSA:
You can download a hi-res version of the PSA from Backcountry Pictures and order the DVD from there (Send them an e-mail.) The PSA is also available for download from the HFW Sound and Vision Gallery, click the image on the top of this entry to go to the relevant subgallery.
Movie blog Slashfilm claimed on Friday to have received a scoop: the latest info from the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) Registration Bureau:
The facsimile shows that the title Indiana Jones and the City of Gods was registered with the MPAA Registration Bureau in NYC on August 9 and that the registrant was Lucasfilm, Ltd. The other entries below are MPAA database entries with similar but not confusingly identical titles, the name of the studio that registered the title and the year the title was registered.
The major studios belong to the MPAA, and the studios regularly register titles even before a film is made, with the Title Registration Bureau. The studios have agreed among themselves not to use motion picture titles which are confusingly similar to those already registered. The reason is obvious: to stop copying (i.e stealing) and profiting on a competitor's product. Adherence to the terms of the MPAA Title Registration Bureau is by contract.
The printout is interesting indeed: it shows that the title Indiana Jones IV (4) (Four) was registered by Lucasfilm and Paramount Pictures/TV already in 2002 - i.e when serious scriptwriting was underway. The woes of indy after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) is also evident from the record: The title Indiana Jones and the Temple of Death was the intended title for the movie that ended up being called Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) but Paramount Pictures/TV seem to have wanted to use the original title for a new Indy movie in the nineties; the Temple of Death entry was registered in 1994.
Slashfilm reports that no less than six different titles have been registered for Indiana Jones 4 whereas the MPAA printout excerpt shows only one title: Indiana Jones and the City of Gods. Read the other titles over at Slashfilm, but please consider that these titles need further substantiation - as in presenting the full MPAA printout. (We assume Slashfilm is sitting on these printouts but have chosen to feature the entry for the City of Gods only.)
Big grats to Yolande!!!! Be sure to look in and try your wits on the new question on the HFW Contest Page.

"HONOR KILLING" REMOVED FROM CROSSING OVER
Harrison Ford as US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Max Brogan
Cliff Curtis as US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Hamid Baraheri
The Hollywood Reporter today: A scene involving an "honor killing" of an Iranian-American woman was removed during the shooting of Crossing Over upon "constructive dialogue" between director Wayne Kramer and The National Iranian American Council (NIAC).
In the original script, an Iranian-American woman and her Latino lover are killed by her brother on the eve of their father's naturalization ceremony (=ceremony confirming American citizenship). The killer, along with his co-conspiratorial brother and the father, identify the redemption of honor as the motive of the crime.
An Iranian-American actor, who isn't associated with the film, read the script and casually mentioned the plot point to NIAC Assistant Legislative Director Emily Blout. Concerned that the depiction in the movie was "highly unlikely and potentially inflammatory", she contacted director Wayne Kramer and the movie's stars during shooting and all parties began a "constructive dialogue from the outstart."
The NIAC reps argued that "honor killings" are accepted in some Middle Eastern cultures but not in Iranian culture except for a few occasions in remote Iranian areas. Furthermore there have been no cases of Iranians having committed 'honor killings" in the US.
The script was rewritten and scenes were reshot. NIAC President Trita Parsi says there's no "honor" in any killing and that it was agreed that the group would not discuss the plot revision in the final film.
Weinstein Co. spokeswoman Sarah Rothman said that the company was pleased the filmmakers and NIAC had been able to resolve the issue in a way that addresses NIACs concerns while the maintaining creative integrity of the film. "While we believe strongly in the freedom of expression, we also believe in the importance of constructive dialogue between artists and the communities they seek to portray", she added.
TheRaider.net has researched the above issue. Kudos to TheRaider.net for the below piece of solid work:
"On July 26, the official IndianaJones.com received a new design with as center image a large wooden crate that bears the text Property of Dr. Jones - 9906573.
Since that day, fans have been talking about the number 9906573 and its possible meaning as it "looks very much like" the serial number on the crate in which the Ark is placed at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Fellow Indyfans saw a message from Lucasfilm in this number: "The Ark of the Covenant will make a return in Indiana Jones 4."
But in that case, isn't the number 9906573 wrong? As the number that appears on the crate at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark is 9906753. The 7 and 5 are switched.
What intrigued and confused visitors even more are two mysterious websites; 9906573.com and 9906753.com. Both sites appeared online only days after the release of the new IndianaJones.com. Are these two sites created by Lucasfilm as part of an online marketing campaign?
9906573.com initially contained the release date of Indy 4 with a link to a Wikipedia page of the Ark of the Covenant. Later this link got replaced by a reference to a bible text. And now it appears completely empty.
9906753.com shows a close-up image of that number on a crate with a link to the official Indy 4 site and a quote from Raiders: That thing represents everything we got into archaeology for in the first place.
Well, I've received word from Lucasfilm that they have nothing to do with these two websites.
And about the number on the Indiana Jones 4 teaser poster & website; Lucasfilm says 9906573 is not meant to reflect the Ark of the Covenant at all. It is just another catalog number like the one seen on the crate containing the Ark in Raiders."

INDIANA JONES 4 GREETING TO COMIC CON
Thanks to HFW member Yvonne: here's the greeting that was screened live via satellite to Comic Con yesterday
afternoon (it was also broadcast on US TV channel G4:)
We have also uploaded a number of new pics to HFW Gallery 1:
IESB's pics from the screening of the IJ4 greeting and pics of new cool promo posters, folders - and a T-shirt causing at least the under- signed to wish that everything fun wasn't always such a long way and big load of $ away....
The Indiana Jones presentation at Comic Con in San Diego featured a satellite broadcast directly from the set and the wonderful news is that Karen Allen is back on the team (YAY!!!!!) -- looking absolutely fabulous. A couple of photos from the presentation:
Shia looks lost, Ray Winstone sports gear in the best Howard Carter tradition, Indy's got a nice little paunch -- and where's Abner???? Check out the other pics from the satellite broadcast in HFW Gallery 1here and here.
We also recommend an immediate visit to the totally revamped official Indiana Jones website: they got some very nice new features besides the snazzy interface, including some great new Indy wallpapers for your desktop.

PS. We suggest a look at that background map: considering the Marshall, Kennedy & Fantasia interview in Hilo last week, the map location is now official twice over. It's also, if we may say so, aptly hotspotted - and a bit narrowed in.
The Entertainment Tonight website published a video yesterday with on the set interviews and shots from National Treasure: Book of Secrets and the clip confirms that the much berumored Universal Mesoamerican sets are indeed used in the movie. Click the Play button below:
The August 2007 edition of Empire Movie Magazine features an extraordinary Blade Runner 25th Anniversary homage and article collection: among the goodies are brand new interviews with director Ridley Scott - and Harrison Ford. To our knowledge this is the first time Harrison has given an interview entirely dedicated to the movie.

INDIANA JONES 4 WORLDWIDE NEWSREEL
IndianaJones.com released a new video today showing news reports from all over the world. Waterfall on Hilo shooting location. Click image to see more in HFW Gallery 1
Location Manager Mike Fantasia, Exec. Producer Kathleen Kennedy and Producer Frank Marshall held a press conference in Hilo on July 13, and quite a few interesting facts appeared:
Hilo was originally not considered a prime location target; Steven Spielberg wanted "something fresh", but it was chosen due to "settings that couldn't be matched anywhere else" and tax incentives.
The Hilo location will be doubling as a South American rainforest.
About 20 % of the images in the finished movie will be from the Hilo location, about 50 % from the L.A soundstages. Shooting has already taken place in Deming, New Mexico and New Haven, Connecticut.
The Hilo locations involve about 400 crew, 125 local hires and 25-30 stunt performers. The cattle call was specific on seeking extras with Eastern European looks. Gear and crew resources normally used on the TV hit series Lost are at work on and for Indy 4
The major stars working on the Hilo location: Ford, Blanchett, Hurt, LaBeouf.
Harrison is still doing his own stunts - 'physical acting' - needing a just few more ice packs and massages. PS. The pants still fit.
Shooting will move on to next location some time between July 21 and July 24.

FILMING IN HILO TOWN & SURROUNDING AREAS
'Kapu': No Trespassing
According to the Hawaii Tribune-Herald Steven Spielberg and George Lucas arrived on Big Island in separate private jets just after 4.30 p.m on July 9 amid tight security. They were given the traditional flower garlands (lei) and were quickly escorted into different vehicles before leaving the airport for undisclosed locations.
Part of the film is being shot at various locations around East Hawaii, including an undisclosed waterfall on the Hamakua Coast and on a secluded piece of Shipman Estate property near Keaau, sources have told the Tribune-Herald. Filming is expected to take about three weeks.
Members of the film crew reportedly are staying at various East Hawaii hotels, including the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.
The Hawaii Film & Video Magazine has reported that filming begins on July 11 and that the alleged locations involves 'a deep heavy bush location' situated mauka (on or towards mountain/inland) in Hilo town.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported on July 8 that the production has set up shop on the old Shipman property near Keaau. The Shipman Family are among the oldest local landoweners (kamaaina) on Big Island. The founder of the dynasty was the son of Maui missionaries who married a local Big Island girl and founded a ranch with thousands of acres of sugar cane and a sugar mill in Keaau.
The Tribune-Herald then added that two hotel workers been told by crew that shooting would start on June 10 and that a shoot would take place at a waterfall north of Hilo.
New Universal lot sets (July 6)
The latest on the L.A sets rumor grapevine is the spotting of new sets near a parking lot on the Universal lot. According to the source, the Tour Guide answered upon inquiry that she wasn't always allowed to talk about things when another production company was involved.
The natural follow- and checkup question about the exisitng Meso- american looking sets elsewhere on the lot (already reported webwide and officially debunked as Indy 4 sets) elicited the reply that they were 'National Treasure 2 for sure'. Feel free to see the YouTube video and read our musings here in the HFW Forums.
Big grats to Ryan!!!! Be sure to look in and solve the new riddle on the HFW Contest Page.

According to Hawaii Film & Video Magazine Indiana Jones 4 has got a new sexy name: TUGP - The Unnamed Genre Project.
According to the magazine, production executives insist that no reference to the film's actual title should be be spoken and that it should only be referred to as TUGP.
The magazine also reports that the Hawaii state and film commissioners had been asked to sign a confidentiality agreement but that they didn't.
It also seems the shooting on Big Island's Hamakua Coast will take place on private property for two to three weeks in mid July, two weeks sooner than originally scheduled.
Yale University stands in for Indy 4's - eh, TUGP's - fictional Marshall College but there is a Marshall in real life too: Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. and they are naturally a bit disappointed about the choice of shooting locations. See article and university website sources below.
The Indy 4 cast and crew have finished shooting in New Haven and moved on 40 miles east to to Essex on June 5 and 6, filming on and around the Essex Steam Train. We have some new pics in, the first batch is from the shooting in New Haven on June 3rd; click here to go to the relevant section of HFW Gallery 1. The second batch are atmospheric and set shots from the Essex site, click here to see them as well.
We also have a new feature for you on our Indiana Jones 4 page: if you ever wanted to know what movies were considered top of the crop in 1957 or what TV shows people preferred - not to speak of the music they listened to...Why not go to the page to find out and play our online jukebox containing the 105 biggest 1957 hits?? Click image left and then click on relevant graphics in the right sidebar on the Indy 4 page to really get in the mood.
According to JoBlo.com actor Andrew Divoff has joined the Indiana Jones 4 cast.
Most of you may know Divoff best as 'Michail Bakunin' in the TV series Lost but he has a long and diversified career, which includes The Hunt for Red October, Air Force One, Another 48 Hrs. and TV series like the Wishmaster series, Walker Texas Ranger, JAG - and Lost.
Divoff was born on July 2, 1955 in San Tome, Venezuela, he's a college graduate and speaks no less than nine languages fluently; Spanish, Catalan and Russian are among them.
Today's issue of the New Haven Register contains an interesting article about Indiana Jones 4 producer Frank Marshall and the filming so far seen through his eyes.
The article also contains an interesting piece of news: Shooting on July 5th will involve the Essex Steam Train.
The historic Connecticut Valley Line runs from Essex (about 40 miles / 65 kms east of New Haven) and the attraction also involves a riverboat. We have no idea if the majestic river swan will be featured in the upcoming shoot. The production will move on to Hawaii once the Essex shoot is in the can.
Another interesting snippet in the interview is the following quote:
"Steven is very aware of the process and we're not cheating with CG (computer graphics) at all," Marshall said. "It keeps the B movie feel."
IGN.com also posted a M-A-J-O-R spoiler yesterday; if you care to look it up we advise to hold on firmly to any potatoes in the vincinity - and add more than one pinch of salt afterwards.
