EW COVER, HARRISON Q&A

Entertainment Weekly's #988/989 issue (April 25 - May 2, 2008) features lots of Indy stuff: the cover left, new pictures, interviews with the principals. (Spielberg & Lucas, see news item below) Harrison is also honored with a Q&A and he comes across in fine form as well -- but different from the Beards on a vaudeville high. As usual, he appears more solemn and press wary but his replies can be delightfully ironic, almost always wry and sometimes pure smarta**.
First EW's description of their interviewee:

"He sounds nothing like his adventuresome character -- or like anyone he's played onscreen. His voice is pitched much lower, and he's not emphatic in his delivery at all. There's not a trace of hurry in his cadences. It underscores the fact that every detail of what Ford does as Indy is a careful invention. The actor, now 65, is guarded, almost prickly, in speaking of his work; he seems to have a horror of being perceived as even remotely conceited (which he isn't)."

Harrison speaks on a playing a gray haired Indy, on his Han Solo deathwish, praise for his coworkers (including the late Denholm Elliott), privacy, public scrutiny - and he throws in a couple of ironic punches at George Lucas and Sir Sean Connery for good measure.

For your preview pleasure: a new classic Ford shut up, this time on the question of age paranoia:
Yeah, I've heard it. ''Aaaaw, he's older.'' Well s---, yes. And by the way? So are you. So...are...you! Take a look in the f---ing mirror!
Look up your local news agent and read the Harrison Q&A in entirety here.

Spielberg, Lucas Interview in EW

SPIELBERG, LUCAS INTERVIEW IN EW
..it's a riot!

Entertainment Weekly features the write-up of a fantastic interview session with The Beards today; an interview we find it impossible to write a review on. The first reason is that a short review can't possibly do EW and the in-top-form interviewees reasonable justice, the second is that we laughed so hard we're just plain unable to type straight.

Pronto: head over to EW immediately by clicking the links below and let your eyes feast on a top class oratory by two of the movie world's all time giants.

Our personal ROFL moment: 'We have managed to keep the fact that Will Ferrell is the main villain in Crystal Skull out of the blogosphere.'

Harrison Portrait in USA Today

HARRISON PORTRAIT IN USA TODAY

Photo by Dan MacMedan, USA Today
USA Today features a fine interview with Harrison in today's issue. An extra on the net is a nice photo gallery highlighting his career. It includes a new photo from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as well as one from his recent cameo in Jimmy Kimmel's F***ing Ben Affleck video.

Harrison and USA Today's reporter go for a hike up Temescal Canyon outside Santa Monica, CA. The location is used as a thematic angle as well as a chance to have a nice working day out of the office. The apt article title: 'Harrison Ford is a Portrait of Rugged Individualism'.

Harrison on Indiana Jones: "We learn more about him through plot devices and we'll learn something more about him in this film. I think it's required. If you're going to bring back a character, you'll have to supply the audience with something more and different. The adventure is very, very important. But it's interesting to discover a facet of the character that perhaps you hadn't explored before."

No, he hasn't seen he hasn't seen Crystal Skull in its finished form yet but he's sure he'll see it before it premieres at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18. Another little comment - courtesy USA Today - that's going to spur a lot of speculation: Harrison might also consider a fifth installment of Indiana Jones, though he hopes it won't take 20 years to pull together.

Other that that the topics are conservational practices at his Wyoming ranch, recent commercially unsuccessful movies, his role as an immigration officer in the upcoming ensemble drama Crossing Over (opens Aug 22!!) and on the impression his characters and profession have made on his children and grandchildren.

Head over to USA Today to read it all.

EAA Chapter 92 in Chino had a supportive visit from the National EAA Young Eagles Chaiman on Saturday April 12. Big thanks to EAA Ch 92 President Ray Hecker for the pics and the following report! Why not check with your local EAA Chapter on how/where to introduce a young person to aviation??

Chino, Ca. - 04/12/2008 - Area young people ages 8-17 took to the skies on Saturday, April 12th, as Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 92 hosted a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Chino Airport.

The rally is part of the EAA Young Eagles Program, created to interest young people in aviation. Since the program launch in 1992, Volunteer EAA pilots have flown more than 1.3 million young people who reside in more than 90 countries.

"Free airplane rides are just part of the Flight Rally," said Cliff Carpenter, Young Eagles Coordinator and spokesperson for the event. "We are building one-to-one relationships between pilots and young people, giving a new generation a chance to learn more about the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation."

Pilots at the event also explain about their aircraft allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight. A special appearance in support of EAA Chapter 92 (Orange County California) was made by EAA pilot and National Young Eagles Chairman, Harrison Ford.

As Chairman, Mr. Ford promotes the EAA Young Eagles program when possible and plans to attend the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 Fly-In. Mr. Ford has flown more than 300 Young Eagles since becoming involved in the program. An accomplished pilot, Mr. Ford joined EAA after earning his pilot's certificate in 1996. He is a holder of a several additional FAA pilot ratings including seaplane, rotorcraft (helicopters) and an instrument rating. He owns several aircraft including a 1958 DH-2 de Havilland Beaver, in which he flew a total of seven (7) Young Eagles during the event.

"Young Eagles gives kids a view of the world they've never seen before and I am here today to fly kids," Ford remarked earlier. "Each Young Eagle flight is an opportunity to excite kids by sharing a passion for flight show them that they can participate in aviation at any level."

Following the flight, each young person, received an endorsed certificate making them an official Young Eagle. Their names are entered into the "World's Largest Logbook," which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, WI. The Logbook is also accessible on the Internet at www.youngeagles.org

Other activities included access to the Planes of Fame Air Museum for the young person and their parent or guardian. The Planes of Fame Air Museum is a world-class collection of aircraft from a replica of the first Wright Flyer to modern Jet age aircraft.

Along with flight rallies, EAA members also fly Young Eagles on an individual basis. Each pilot volunteers their time, aircraft and aviation fuel, so the flights can be provided free of charge for interested young people.

Those who attend flight rallies were asked to reserve a flight at ye.pacstates.com under the events tab for the date of the flight and come to the Planes of Fame Air Museum Located at 7000 Merrill Ave # 17 Chino, CA. 91710 on the corner of Merrill Ave and Cal Aero Way. The Young Eagle flight rally starts at 09:30 am with registration for flights. The Young Eagles' parent or guardian filled out and sign a registration form. Flights began at 10:00 am, with registration closing at 11:00 am. Young people interested in attending the next scheduled Flight Rally are asked to reserve a flight at ye.pacstates.com. SPACE IS LIMITED. A maximum of 40 Young people can sign up via the reservation system.

Additional information about EAA and the EAA Young Eagles program is available on the Internet. Access to EAA's Home Page is available at www.eaa.org. The Young Eagles web page is www.youngeagles.org

Winstone: Ford basically a cowboy

WINSTONE: FORD BASICALLY A COWBOY

A cowboy
From digitalspy.co.uk:

Ray Winstone has said that Harrison Ford is still perfect for the role of Indiana Jones despite his age. Winstone, who plays Jones' friend Mac in the latest installment of the action franchise, described Ford as being like "a cowboy" on set.

He is quoted as saying: "Harrison is a boy! He was an absolute ball. He can hit that dot on the door, about 20ft away, with his whip. He can drive the car like a stuntman and he can act. He's basically a cowboy!"
The Sexy Beast star also revealed that he would have turned down director Steven Spielberg if his role in the movie hadn't been substantial. "I wouldn't have done this film for a bit part," commented Winstone. "I said to Spielberg, 'I don't want to just be along for the ride. I want to bring something to it. I'm too old in the tooth to just show my face. I'm never going to be a big Hollywood star, but if I'm going to be in an Indiana Jones movie, I want to be a big part of the story."
