Lockerbie Goes to Hollywood?

LOCKERBIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD?

The Scotsman reports today that the terrororist bombing and subsequent crash of Pan Am Flight 103 in Lockerbie, Scotland on Dec. 21, 1988 may be up for Hollywood treatment. Names mentioned around this possible project are Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford.

The former Mossad agent Juval Aviv is planning to turn the Lockerbie disaster into a big screen hit blaming Iran (not Libya) for the atrocity, in which 270 people lost their lives. Mr. Aviv is not just anybody: he and his company were hired by Pan Am to help investigate the bombing. Aviv also penned the book that inspired Munich, furthermore he worked on the Steven Spielberg movie as a consultant and is a friend of the director.

Mr. Aviv, also a dual US-Israeli citizen, has revealed he is in talks with a number of high-profile Hollywood directors over the film rights on the book he's writing; among those considering adapting the script is Steven Spielberg.

The central character in Aviv's novels is a retired and disaffected Mossad agent called Sam Woolfman. One industry insider suggested that Harrison Ford would be ideal in the role of the rugged, secret agent. He said: "Harrison has already played a similar character in Patriot Games where he was Jack Ryan, a CIA agent who becomes embroiled in a terrorist plot."

Read the full report in The Scotsman here. For a recap on the Lockerbie bombing and more background info on Juval Aviv: have a look in the sources list below.

Serious Indy 4 Promo is a Go -- in Madrid

SERIOUS CRYSTAL SKULL PROMO IS A GO -- IN MADRID

Display at the Kinépolis in Madrid
Photo: Indiana Jones: Comunidad Fan Española Dec.20, 2007
Spanish Indiana Jones fan site indianajones.es has a scoop today: the first pictures of the Indy 4 promo displays we can expect to see at the bigger cinemas from now on. Indianajones.es writes:*

Some of our forum members went to the Kinépolis in Madrid to see Blade Runner: The Final Cut and we got a major surprise when we saw a promo display for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The display consisted of a cardboard suitcase with an English logo and typical souvenir stickers. There was also a huge crate, as seen in one of the posters presented at Comic-Con and also presently adorning the official Indiana Jones website. The crate also featured souvenir stickers and the logo in Spanish. The crate is made of real wood and looks old. The text on the front says: Property of Dr Jones 9906573 and the reverse side says in Spanish Do not open until May 22, 2008. The only stuff that looked a bit off key in our opinion was the fedora and the whip hanging on the crate: they appeared somewhat puny.

Indianajones.es also remarks that they would have regarded the display as nothing but expected promo for a big tentpole if it weren't for the coincidence that it appeared yesterday, the day before the Spanish premiere of National Treasure: Book of Secrets - one of the movies rumored to feature the long awaited Indy 4 teaser trailer. The site doesn't believe the trailer will be screened with Book of Secrets today but assumes we'll get no further warning as to when it will actually appear.

Go to indianajones.es to read the full report and see their pictures from the Madrid Kinépolis.

*UPDATE*

Indianajones.es just reported that the Indy 4 teaser trailer was not screened today. They also say that the promo campaign is not a Kinépolis exclusive: a similar display is up at the Dreams cinemas in the Palacio de Hielo (Ice Palace), also in Madrid

Harrison also finally gets kudos from one of the big net hipsters: website IGN.com has introduced a new feature called IGN Stars Icons and he was chosen as the first entry in their series. Check out no less than three screens of acclaim - no cheap jokes, not a trace of envy badly concealed as irony, not even the G-word (geezer) - over at IGN here.

First Teaser Poster by Drew Struzan, More on Indy 4 Characters & Locations

FIRST TEASER POSTER BY DREW STRUZAN, MORE ON INDY 4 CHARACTERS & LOCATIONS

As previously promised by the producers: A very nice piece of work was added to the official Indiana Jones site today: The first Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull teaser poster by Drew Struzan. Click on excerpt image above to go to there and get a copy. Should you want the poster in full glory: visit StarWarsShop.com (Price: USD 19.99 + p&p). The poster has been very very well received by fans and the general audience - with the exeption of the usual nitwits (Perez Hilton, Hollywood Elsewhere).

A very interesting article has also appeared in USA Today re: the announcement of the poster. Producer Frank Marshall spills more beans: We now get to know the surname and job description of Cate Blanchett's character and (some of??) the geographical locations where Indy 4 action will take place. Bonus: we even get a comment on the inofficial lore surrounding crystal skulls. more than suggesting that a persistent and controversial rumor will be dealt with one way or the other when the movie opens on May 22nd next year. Read the the article in entirety here.

Marshall Reveals Characters; Some Are Still A Mystery

PRODUCER FRANK MARSHALL REVEALS INDY 4 CHARACTERS
...but one in particular still remains clouded in mystery

Cate Blanchett: [Villain]

Ray Winstone: [Competitor and Friend]

Jim Broadbent: [Yale Colleague]

John Hurt: Still A Mystery

MTV.com has landed an exclusive interview with producer Frank Marshall, who had a thing or two to say about the nature of some of the characters in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. (Highlight to see the text between the brackets under the pics above). The only real news concern Ray Winstone's character.

However, what we find most interesting is the total silence on anything whatsoever on John Hurt's character - something that makes us even more certain his role is indeed as important and revealing as we suspect. The silence re: Mutt a.k.a Shia LaBeouf is also thundering.

Marshall took the time to shoot down a recent rumor about Crystal Skull being the start of a series of new Indy movies . "I don't think so. We're all getting too old," Marshall said, "We have to hand the torch to somebody else. I don't know who that's going to be."

Marshall also reveals he feels none the wiser after actually having visited a crystal skull - residing in Texas. PS. To avoid any unfortunate misunderstandings: his name is Max.

Read the highly interesting interview here.
