YOHOOO!! Heeeere's Indy!!!

YOHOOO!! HEEEERE'S INDY!!

First published on Ain't It Cool News earlier today, suddenly pulled, then reentered and finally confirmed official by spielbergfilms.com: here are three new promo pics from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Click on the images above to see them bigger size.

The photos are shot by Spielberg stills photographer regular David James and an examination of their EXIF data reveal that they were shot on August 16, i.e at the time the crew had returned to Los Angeles and were shooting at the Universal Studios backlot.

Our first jumbled impressions are as follows:
  • Harrison looks good. No doubt about it: Indy is back, ready to solve puzzles, share some wisdom and kick a**
  • Curious: The costume looks strangely new and unworn and a bit out of continuity. Examples: Indy's in the cave/temple with Mutt: the Raiders signature cobweb is in place on the fedora but the pant knees are still unsoiled. (PS: Shia's holding a lantern, not a flashlight - notice the handle)
  • The bike pic: The bike is dirty but no road dust on Indy or Mutt, few wear traces on jacket, gun holster and whip. (The bag looks rumpled enough -)
  • The poncho man...Is he Meso or South American and how we would love to work out the text on that (store?) sign in the background... plus identify the soldier's nationality by uniform (we're working on it -)-
  • The skeleton "configuration" in the cave/temple (the ledge they're standing on is cut stone, thus we presume a temple / a place of ritual worship.) ....a bunch of jumbled dead people or one pretty exotic creature? And what does that skeleton hand almost grasp? A piece of jade?? The faint decor on the pottery in the background is also intriguing
In other words: the moviemakers got all of us just as feverishly interested (while leaving us just as ditto ignorant) as they intended. Nice work, guys & gals!!!

Indy Artwork: Jason Palmer Studios

INDY ARTWORK: JASON PALMER STUDIOS

As we're into artwork: Have a look at this fine portrait of Indy by Jason Palmer Studios called It's Not The Years It's The Mileage. Click on the image left to see a big version at the artist's webpages.

May we suggest that Palmer had a look at Timothy White's portrait of Harrison - as seen left on this page - when he did it?

Indy Artwork; Artist Hired by Lucas Licencing?

INDY ARTWORK; ARTIST NEKOKAIJU HIRED BY LUCAS LICENCING?

The amazing artwork left is by an artist calling himself Nekokaiju and is published in the artist's blog here.

The blog profile says that Nekokaiju is a a freelance illustrator currently working at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and who's obsessed with magazines and ephemera especially from around the turn of the century. Furthermore: the blog says he/she has been hired by Lucas Licencing to do promo artwork for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Here's where we would appreciate your help: does anybody out there know more about this?? Drop or a line. Thanks in advance!!!

Indyfans and the Quest for Fortune and Glory

We got the following press release a couple of days ago:

It's been 27 years since we were introduced to the rugged adventurer that wore a fedora and carried a bullwhip, 18 years since we last saw him on the silver screen, and on May 22nd, 2008, he's back!

Like many successful film franchises, they become driven by their strong fan base. Star Wars fans enjoy dressing as Jedi Knights, Stormtroopers, and even little green aliens with big ears. Star Trek fans "beam down" to conventions all over the world, some even speaking their native Klingon. It's not too often you see a guy carrying a bullwhip, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there.

A new documentary, Indyfans and the Quest for Fortune and Glory, is currently in production and showcases the legacy left behind from everyone's favorite archaeologist.

Directed by Brandon Kleyla, star of such films as Children of the Corn 4 and Gods and Monsters, the film takes you inside the world of Indiana Jones and really shows what it takes to be an Indyfan. "This is not an easy collection or hobby to have," says Kleyla. "Just having an accurate costume alone can cost close to over a thousand dollars."

The film also features interviews with those involved with the Indy legacy such as Raiders of the Lost Ark costume designer, Deborah Nadoolman and Senior Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering, Tony Baxter. But of course we can't forget the fans. Interviews with fans have been shot all over the United States, including the San Diego Comic Con and New Haven, Connecticut, one of the filming locations for the fourth Indiana Jones film.

Indyfans and the Quest for Fortune and Glory is directed by Brandon Kleyla, and produced by Bill Kleyla, Cliff Broadway (Ringers), and Justin Sewell (LiningUpTv).

The filmmakers are hoping to have the documantary ready on DVD by May 22, 2008. Should there be delays it'll be available by the time Crystal Skull is released on DVD,

Read more about it at the movie's official site indyfansfilm.com. We'd also be happy to relay your questions to the filmmakers; just drop a line.

Crystal Skull mixes action, heartfelt moments and comedy in equal amounts

WINSTONE: CRYSTAL SKULL MIXES ACTION, HEARTFELT MOMENTS, COMEDY IN EQUAL AMOUNTS

Ray Winstone said in a recent interview published in the MTV Movies Blog that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull mixes action, heartfelt moments and comedy in equal amounts. He added: "If it all works to plan, which I'm sure it will, it starts off with a gallop, and [the script] just gets quicker and quicker and quicker. It's one hell of a story, actually." As for the fun he insisted that the humor of the film isn't necessarily dependent on Indy delivering "I'm too old for this"-type of lines after an action scene.

Winstone admitted that it's a film he never ever thought he'd be making. Seeing the iconic fedora and whip had given him chills "without even realizing I was going to be like that." As for Harrison, Winstone said that he can hit a spot on a door with the whip and that he "runs around like a 17-year-old."

As for his own character in the movie, Winstone described it as a sidekick character along the same lines as Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Winstone was also full of praise for Shia LaBeouf, who he claimed has brought the Indy world a welcomed sense of improvement.

On the Dinner Circuit

FLYING HIGH & ON THE DINNER CIRCUIT

Harrison with LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at the 36th Humanitarian Awards Dinner on Nov 9
We may wonder what Harrison has been up to since principal photography wrapped on Crystal Skull a couple of weeks ago. There hasn't been too much on the grapewine, but here's what we've picked up:
  • Spent a couple of days in NYC
  • Was in Wichita, Kansas re: upgrading to a Cessna Citation Sovereign (from a Citation CJ3) on the personal planes front
  • Attended the Conservation International Gala Dinner in Washington DC on November 2
  • Attended the Peace Over Violence - 36th Humanitarian Awards Dinner on November 9

We have a few new pics available in HFW Gallery 1 for your enjoyment.

Big thanks to HFW members Grandmajones and Loon Lake for their research!!!

Wrap of Principal Photography Video at Official Site

WRAP OF PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY VIDEO UP AT THE OFFICIAL INDY SITE

Screenshots from official video
Movie source: indianajones.com

indianajones.com has a new video up and this one is well worth a look: we get a nice intro on the previous Indiana Jones movies and some frames from the last day of shooting toast - and more importantly: a better look at the principal cast.

Harrison looks positively great, Shia has a more than uncanny resemblance to his rumored maternal grandpa, we get a first (official) look of a furry John Hurt sans any Hercule Poirot pretentions. The big big, teasing question mark re: Cate Blanchett is still hanging in the air: she seems to appear in "civilian" clothes and makeup; not in her joneswear. Ray Winstone looks the way we saw him in the Comic-Con video greeting and Jim Broadbent seems have been caught in a relaxed - if not literally hot - professorial mode.

Click here to go to the official site. NB!! Have a look at the new wallpapers they have up too. If you care to have a look at slighly bigger versions of our screenshots: go to HFW Gallery 1.
