LOS ANGELES - Actor Harrison Ford will receive the Distinguished Humanitarian Award from B'nai B'rith International on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

"This year, B'nai B'rith observes its 160th anniversary," says Stephen Pollack, the organization's Southern California regional president, "and we are very honored and pleased that such an internationally recognized star of the stature of Harrison Ford has agreed to receive this prominent honor."

The award recognizes leaders of business, education, government and the arts whose achievements and contributions to society make a difference in the world.

This year's award, which will particularly highlight Ford's efforts and work on behalf of preserving the environment, will be presented at a celebrity banquet at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The event coincides with the Jewish holiday of Tu B'Shevat, known as the Jewish Arbor Day. B'nai B'rith is involved in implementing the "Green Sanctuaries" program, which promotes conservation and the use of "environmental-friendly" energy, such as solar paneling, among churches and synagogues.

B'nai B'rith is the world's largest Jewish human rights, philanthropic and community action organization with members in 51 countries.

Ford was nominated in 1985 for his performance in "Witness." His career, which spans nearly 40 years, includes iconic characters such as Han Solo in the "Star Wars" series, president Jack Ryan in the Tom Clancy-inspired films and the title character in the "Indiana Jones" movies. He will reprise the role in his upcoming "Indiana Jones IV," which will begin production sometime next year.
